My goal in launching Get the Picture is two-fold:  1. To create meaningful art for your waiting room walls by capturing the ordinary & familiar scene (from the area) and elevating it into an artistic treasure with rich details and stunning compositions.
2. To provide a subtle nod to your client base by sharing scenes from the area where we live and work. Perhaps it's something they see every day but don't have time to stop, and study. Now they can.

Select a photo you like or suggest a location you'd like me to photograph. Then I'll recommend the best photo treatment, size, & frame to fit with your office decor.

If these walls could speak? Now they can with local, eye-catching images for all of us to enjoy, while we're waiting.  Get the Picture?

I started my career as a photographer  while a student at the College of William & Mary. It was a paid position where I coordinated shoots, developed my film, and printed my images in the campus darkroom. I had weekly assignments from the campus newspaper and for the features & candid section for our yearbook. My most exciting shoot was the 1982 Rolling Stones concert at Hampton Coliseum, Newport News, VA. Even without a press pass, I was able to plant myself 8' from center stage in front of Mick Jagger. My photo was featured in the full-page at the beginning of the publication.

I went on to work for a Charlottesville, Virginia, weekly newspaper doing photography and some writing. Then
I was hired by Mary Baldwin University as a photographer & graphic designer. I started my own graphic design agency with my brother and did photography on an as-needed basis. Technology was changing. From my
Mamiya and Olympus to a digital Nikon camera, now  it's often cellphone photography.

My years of doing my own darkroom work make using computer applications like Photoshop very intuitive. What sets me apart from other photographers and artists? Let's just say "I see (the humor, the extraordinary, a different view) of the common, everyday familiar.                                                                                                                                     Marsha Vayvada
